Forrester: Marketers should, and will, better utilize mobile strategies
A Forrester Research report predicts marketers will spend an estimated $1 billion for mobile phone display and search advertising in 2011, according to Mobile Marketer.
“Smartphone adoption is growing and with it activities typically associated with PCs, such as researching products, booking hotels, trading stocks, finding a nearby restaurant, or simply browsing the Internet,” Forrester’s Mobile Trends report said.
The organization predicts that marketers will perfect the ability to use mobile marketing to drive foot traffic into stores and sell products.
“No longer citing an inability to reach their customers as a reason to hold back, marketers will take advantage of the growing audience, targeting it better through location and behavior, as well as using richer media formats, such as video,” the report said.
Forrester recommended that marketers should define their mobile product road map for the next 12 to 18 months and anticipate and measure the impact of their mobile initiatives. Beyond that, the report said, the definition of mobile will change to include devices such as the iPad in addition to phones, and as new products come out, old smartphones will become cheaper and more accessible to the public.
