Fox River Mills to close down, laying off 105

Now it’s closing its factory in Osage, 30 miles northeast of Mason City. The 125-year-old company was located in Appleton, Wis., before moving to Osage in 1971. Fox River had been owned by the Lessard family since 1975, until it was sold to private equity firm LongWater in 2016. The Osage operation has been considered the longest continuously running hosiery mill in the country. Each October, the company hosted Socktoberfest, where it opened its doors to the public for a sock sale that drew thousands of visitors to the town. According to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act data, 105 people will lose their jobs effective Oct. 10.
