Frantzen portraits to be displayed at State Historical Museum
The works of artist Rose Frantzen, whose 180 portraits of Maquoketans capture the intimacy of small-town Iowa, will be displayed beginning March 11 at the State Historical Museum of Iowa. In conjunction with the exhibit, the museum will offer complimentary spring break programs March 14-18. Frantz created these portraits 10 years ago in a vacant storefront in Maquoketa and then went on to have the artwork featured at the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. The paintings are on loan from the Figge Art Museum in Davenport.
