Future fuzzy for Mason City pork plant
Des Moines Register: Company officials aren’t saying much, but at least one other Iowa city is hoping to lure a $240 million pork processing plant that Mason City officials surprisingly rejected Wednesday. Family-owned Prestage Farm announced plans in March to build a 650,000-square-foot plant that eventually could employ as many as 2,000 workers. Gov. Terry Branstad had hailed Prestage’s decision as “a great day for Mason City and all of north Iowa,” and the Mason City Council in March unanimously voted in favor of the project.
