Iowa high school students across the state will participate in internships in fields ranging from wind energy to robotics and construction through 26 projects announced Wednesday are part of the Future Ready Iowa Summer Youth Internship Pilot Program Grant. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced a total of $1,611,415 will be distributed to the projects. Among the largest awards is $225,000 to Des Moines Area Community College for a preemployment training program with 25 Central Iowa employer partners. Other projects include a paid construction and home repair mentorship program conducted by Forest Ave Outreach through its Good Vibes Movement initiative, which received a $56,522 award. “The Summer Youth Internship program started just two years ago with a handful of applicants and today we are awarding 26 unique projects helping over 550 students explore potential careers while earning credit and a wage,” Reynolds said in a release. “These projects not only expand students’ understanding of exciting career opportunities available in their own communities but strengthen the local talent pipeline for Iowa employers looking to grow.” The full list of projects and awards can be found at this link.
