Gasoline prices have gone down two days in a row, reports CNN. The national average for a gallon of gas retreated from its record high, falling three-tenths of a cent to $4.075, according to the AAA auto club. Yesterday, the national average was $4.078.

For the past six weeks, gas prices have continued to soar, with the national average price setting an all-time high on Monday at $4.08 a gallon. This is the first time in six weeks that prices have declined two consecutive days.

However, gas prices are still up 7.4 percent from a month ago and are nearly 36 percent higher than they were last year at this time. California reports the highest price per gallon of gas at an average of $4.607, and Alaska follows with an average of $4.463 per gallon.

Diesel prices also are experiencing a slight drop at the pump. The national average for a gallon of diesel dropped one-tenth of a cent from $4.795 yesterday to $4.794 today. And crude oil prices are also declining, with prices reported below $134 a barrel in early trading on Wednesday.
