USA Today: GateHouse Media’s owner and Gannett have agreed to merge in a deal aimed at cutting overlapping costs and enabling the combined company to pursue a digital transformation. New Media Investment Group announced today that it reached a deal to acquire Gannett, which owns more than 100 other daily publications, including the Des Moines Register and the Iowa City Press-Citizen. After the $1.38 billion cash-and-stock deal, the combined company will be called Gannett.
