President Barack Obama’s outside panel of economic advisers will be led by Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of General Electric Co., Bloomberg reported. Immelt, 54, wrote today in an op-ed piece in the Washington Post that Obama asked him to head the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, which will reach out to labor and business leaders to serve “as a catalyst for action.” Immelt will replace former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker.
