0 wordsAll Latest News, Economic Development, Government Policy and LawWhen I first moved to Des Moines five years ago, as editor, one of the questions I would get asked all the time was “What’s your coverage area?” Seems like a straightforward question, right? We’re the Des Moines Business Record, after all, so we cover Des Moines business. Yet I found it hard to answer.
During the past decade Greater Des Moines has continued to grow and evolve. New communities have joined the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the Cultivation Corridor was launched, and there is now a greater sense of regionalism than ever before. So how big was the radius that we would cover? Not long after I arrived I recognized I needed an answer to the coverage area question.
Yes our readers want hyper-local coverage of the people and businesses they are doing business with every day. And no, they don’t need to know about every business in every town 50 miles from the core. Instead I asked regarding coverage: How do we help you do business in the fringe areas of the region that you might not be as familiar with, but that could affect your business or could present business opportunities?
So our goal with our May 20 issue is to highlight some of the communities on the outskirts of Greater Des Moines. You might not do business there now, but our hope is to introduce you to their efforts, challenges and leadership in an attempt to help better connect and leverage the capacity and opportunities for the region.
