Greater Des Moines might soon have another place to pump iron.

Dave Reiseman, director of communications for Gold’s Gym International Inc., confirmed there is a new gym in the works for West Des Moines.

The new franchised gym will be housed at 1500 22nd St. in the vacated Office Depot building in the Westown Shopping Center. This will be the first Greater Des Moines Gold’s Gym and the fourth for the state.

According to the city of West Des Moines, a tenant remodeling permit has not been submitted from Gold’s Gym or any general contractors for the location and would be required for remodeling to be done.

Christopher Shires, development coordinator for the city, said a gym would be a permitted use for the old Office Depot.

According to the Master Builders of Iowa, the gym will be approximately 25,000 square feet and has a scheduled start date of June 13.
