Kim Reynolds announced Friday that she is appointing Matthew McDermott, a Des Moines attorney in private practice, to the Iowa Supreme Court. McDermott, 42, lives in West Des Moines and has worked as an attorney at Belin McCormick PC in Des Moines since 2003. He has long-standing ties with Republican leaders in Iowa. He is the current president of the board of directors of Iowa Legal Aid and received his law degree from the University of California-Berkeley School of Law.
