Perry officials hope that building a new road in the city’s industrial park will provide further incentive for Hy-Line International, a West Des Moines-based poultry genetics company, to build a new facility in Perry.
Last week the Iowa Transportation Commission approved a Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy (RISE) grant of up to $246,272 to the city, which it will use to extend Research Drive in the industrial park, located on the southeast side of Perry. The state funding was provided through the I-JOBS program. The city will provide about 52 percent of the cost of the project, said Butch Niebuhr, Perry’s city administrator.
Though Hy-Line is still negotiating with the city, “I would say we’re 90 percent sure this company is going to say yes,” Niebuhr said. The new road will provide access to 40 acres of the 65-acre park that have not yet been developed. Hy-Line would develop the southernmost lot in the undeveloped portion of the industrial park, he said.
The road project will be bid through the Iowa Department of Transportation. Perry Economic Development Inc. is in the process of securing an engineer and also plans to extend utilities to the site.
