A little green beetle capable of wiping out ash trees has been confirmed in southeastern Dallas County. The emerald ash borer had already been found in Story, Boone, Jasper and 17 other counties, and is expected to spread statewide. The borer cuts off the trees’ food supply. Tree owners have a choice of cutting down the tree or treating it regularly. Des Moines has a $10 million plan that calls for cutting down some trees, treating some and leaving others to die.  Read more
