The Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation announced Tuesday that it reached its $4 million fundraising goal to provide public art for the new Des Moines International Airport terminal, set to open in early 2027. Fundraising for the initiative began in November 2023. The $4 million raised will fund the selection and installation of five large-scale, site specific art installations throughout the terminal. “Art has the ability to transform a space and add an experience to an otherwise empty wall,” said Kevin Foley, the airport’s executive director, in a prepared statement. “We are certain the Public Art Foundation has chosen pieces that will enhance our passengers’ experience while showcasing pride in our community and the vibrant culture of our region.” According to the foundation, four internationally known artists have been selected to create interior installations for the terminal: Adam Frank, Alteronce Gumby, Gordon Huether and Anne Lindberg. Additionally, Iowa-based artist Matt Niebuhr of RDG Art Studio was selected for an exterior installation.
