Grimesplex groundbreaking ceremony planned
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 11 for a $250 million development planned in Grimes that will include the Midwest’s largest turf sports tourism venue. The ceremony will be held at 1101 E. First St. in Grimes. The Grimesplex development is the sports tourism portion of a Hope Entertainment District that is being developed by Hope Development & Realty, a West Des Moines development group. The area is expected to include hotels, restaurants, retail and destination entertainment venues. The 50-acre Grimesplex, which will be privately owned, will include more than 70 soccer fields of varying sizes and up to 26 baseball and softball fields and 13 football fields. The complex will include lighted fields, concessions, restroom facilities, and areas for food trucks and vendors.
