Harkin to keynote children’s health summit on Oct. 30
The Healthiest State Initiative has announced that retired U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin will deliver the keynote address at the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! Summit on Oct. 30 at Des Moines University. The summit will bring together experts from across the state working in schools, child care, out-of-school programs, health care and communities to share their experiences of adopting strategies to support making healthy choice the easy choice in their environments. The 5-2-1-0 initiative promotes guidelines to help families make daily healthy choices, including five servings of fruits and vegetables, two hours or less of screen time, one hour of exercise, zero sugary drinks and more water. Wellness and nutrition are among four key areas of focus for the Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement, founded in 2013.
