Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines has appointed J. Phil Harrop as chief operations officer for Mercy-West Lakes in West Des Moines and vice president of Mercy-Des Moines, effective July 29. Harrop is currently president and CEO of Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City, Ore., and executive director and COO for Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Nampa, Idaho. “Phil’s proven leadership experience and personal values make him a wonderful asset to Mercy,” Mercy President Karl Keeler said in a release. Earlier in his career, Harrop was executive director of John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines. In the newly created position of COO at Mercy-West Lakes, Harrop will focus on operations and lead the development and delivery of short- and long-range plans addressing quality, patient satisfaction, and growing overall inpatient and outpatient services. He received his PhD, MS, MBA and MHA degrees from Ohio State University and his bachelor’s in business management-finance from Brigham Young University.
