Lifespace Communities has appointed Nicholas “Nick” Harshfield to the position of chief financial officer, effective July 1. Harshfield, most recently CFO of WesleyLife in Johnston, brings more than 30 years of financial experience to the role, 15 years of which are in the senior living industry. He will be replacing longtime CFO Larry Smith, who will retire after more than 17 years with Lifespace. Harshfield has held executive leadership positions in four senior living organizations, with a focus on developing and implementing strategic plans, integrating technology and securing financing for critical development projects. Based in West Des Moines, Lifespace Communities owns and operates 15 continuing care retirement communities in eight states, including Deerfield in Urbandale.
