Healthiest State Iowa launches Double Up Food Bucks program
Double Up Food Bucks, a new statewide healthy food incentive program, will be offered at a small number of farmers markets — including the Perry and Lutheran Services of Iowa farmers markets — beginning this week. A program of the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative, Double Up doubles the value of federal food stamp benefits at participating farmers markets. The program was made possible by a $25,000 grant from the World Food Prize to the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative. “This incentive program not only benefits SNAP clients, but also our local farmers,” said Aubrey Alvarez, executive director of Eat Greater Des Moines.
