Here’s what happens with more women in government

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made headlines in November when he announced that half his Cabinet ministers would be female, a decision he justified with a simple explanation: It’s 2015.


The move won him international praise, but Canada isn’t the first country to take steps to increase women’s representation in government, reports Time.com. And the countries with the most female lawmakers have made major strides on issues such as education, labor-force participation and paid leave.


In the United States, women make up only 19 percent of the U.S. Congress and only four of President Barack Obama’s 15 Cabinet members.


Time outlined a list of countries that have either a parliament or a ministry that is at least 50 percent female and how those countries are outperforming the U.S. on various levels. See the list
