Perry Industries Inc. and investment group Perry Economic Development Inc. have completed the purchase of the Hotel Pattee and La Poste, a social gathering place, the groups announced in a news release. The purchase of the properties was made possible with a contribution from the city of Perry of up to $650,000 and a gift of $500,000 from Osmundson Manufacturing Co., according to the release. Overall, more than $1.5 million was secured through private fundraising. The transaction to acquire the hotel and event space was completed on April 1. The historic Hotel Pattee was renovated in 1993. However, since 2008, the hotel has had four different owners. The most recent previous owners, Vickie and Tom Maxwell, had owned the properties for three years. The outbreak of COVID-19, which caused the temporary closures of many of the nation’s hotels and virtually halted travel for a year, made it financially difficult to maintain the properties, the Perry City Council was told earlier this year. “Every three to five years, the hotel has turned over ownership,” Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson said during a City Council work session in January reported on by the Perry News. “We’re looking for a long-term solution that gives us in Perry some local ownership and local say in how the hotel moves forward. It is such a crucial part of the community fabric and the economic fabric of what goes on in town.”
