HNI Corp. will donate $1 million toward the construction of the Iowa State University Student Innovation Center, which is expected to open in January 2020, according to a release. The approximately $84 million, 140,000-square-foot building is under construction on the west side of the ISU campus in Ames. It is planned as a hub for hands-on projects, where students learn by collaborating across a wide range of disciplines. The center is for students attending all of ISU’s undergraduate colleges. It is being funded by private donations and public funds, with nearly half of the $84 million project coming from state appropriations. Muscatine-based HNI provides products and services for offices and homes.
