Espnola “Nola” Cartmill has joined Holmes Murphy as the company’s chief diversity officer. In this new role for the company, Cartmill will lead diversity, equity and inclusion strategies to ensure diverse hiring and promotion throughout the Waukee-based insurance brokerage, as well as facilitate diversity training programs for all employees. She will work closely with Holmes Murphy’s existing DEI committees, in addition to Holmes Murphy’s Talent & Culture, Legal, and ethOs (organizational engagement) teams in the DEI space. Cartmill’s background includes a prominent law career, rooted in a passion for DEI, where she previously assisted employers in tackling both day-to-day employment law issues and litigation. She has counseled employers on compliance issues, including various legal policies and legislation. Cartmill grew up in Fort Madison and attended college at the University of Iowa and Harvard Law School. Cartmill, previously an attorney with Belin McCormick in Des Moines, was a 2016 Business Record Forty Under 40 honoree.
