HomeGoods, a discount home decor, furniture and kitchen store chain, is planned in Ankeny along Delaware Avenue in an outlot by Fleet Farm, according to an agenda posted by the Ankeny Plan and Zoning Commission.

The store would be the second one located in the Des Moines area. A HomeGoods opened in August 2014 in the Plaza at Jordan Creek, a Hurd Realty Co. development. The Ankeny development is also a Hurd project.

HomeGoods, whose sister stores include TJ Maxx, Sierra, Marshalls and Homesense, also has stores in Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Coralville and Davenport.

If the Ankeny Plan and Zoning Commission approves the site plan for HomeGoods at its meeting Tuesday, the 22,020-square-foot store would open in spring, according to Richard Hurd, president of Hurd Real Estate. The store is planned for 3625 S.E. Delaware Ave.

The chain, which has more than 700 stores in the United States, has been in a growth mode, opening stores this year in Texas, Florida and Michigan. In August, HomeGoods’ parent company TJX Co., reported that second-quarter net sales rose 5% to $9.8 billion, $1.4 billion of which was from HomeGoods stores.
