Hoover, the floor-care products manufacturer that was a drain on Maytag Corp. profits for many years, will close its main campus and some manufacturing operations by fall, the Associated Press reported.

Whirlpool Corp., which acquired Maytag Corp. and its subsidiaries last year, sold Hoover earlier this year to Hong Kong-based Techtronics Industries Co. Ltd. This morning, Techtronics announced that it will close Hoover’s main campus in North Canton, Ohio, resulting in 750 job cuts, in both manufacturing and management. Hoover had been based in the Ohio city for nearly 100 years.   A Hoover distribution center and a vacuum bag assembly plant in the area will remain open, but the local manufacturing work will be consolidated into Hoover manufacturing operations in El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico, Techtronics said in a statement.
