Horizon Science Academy Des Moines will be the focus of a virtual town hall discussion next week sponsored by the Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa. The discussion will be at 4:30 p.m. July 19. The Iowa Department of Education has authorized five charter schools in Iowa, the latest one being Horizon, which is opening this fall at 4801 Franklin Ave. in Des Moines. The school, operated by Concept Schools, initially will enroll about 200 kindergarten through third grade students. A grade level will be added each year until the school serves elementary through high school. The school’s curriculum will include a heavy focus on math, science and technology.
