House of Mercy to dedicate new behavioral health center
MercyOne House of Mercy will dedicate the new Joseph & Dorothy Schuster Behavioral Health Center with a virtual event on Tuesday at 10 a.m. The center, located in the House of Mercy’s lower level at 1409 Clark St. in Des Moines, opened in November 2020 and expands House of Mercy’s outpatient behavioral health services by 50%. The majority of the expansion was funded by a $492,000 naming gift from the late Joseph and Dorothy Schuster announced in July 2019. With the addition of the Schuster Behavioral Health Center, House of Mercy is now one of a handful of locations in Central Iowa to offer treatment to parents and children, and to those with both mental health and substance abuse disorders, MercyOne said in a press release. All major insurance providers are accepted and a sliding fee scale is offered to ensure affordability for all clients. The center includes 14 office spaces, an observation room for therapy and for training, a group therapy room and a family/play therapy room. House of Mercy opened in 1988. The 501(c)(3) organization is one of Iowa’s most comprehensive providers of behavioral health services, and Central Iowa’s largest treatment program for parenting women with children.
