HUD awards more than $8 million for homeless programs in Iowa

104 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawThe U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has provided $8.3 million in grants to 55 housing and service programs in Iowa, according to a release. The Continuum of Care grants allow local housing programs to offer permanent and transitional housing to homeless people, as well as services such as job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care. Continuum of Care grants are awarded competitively and fund a variety of programs from street outreach and assessment to transitional and permanent housing for homeless people and families.
