Des Moines Register: Des Moines metro Hy-Vee stores are expanding contact-free options inside their stores, adding self-checkout kiosks to a majority of their locations. “This is a change we are testing for the sole purpose of enhancing the customer experience, timeliness it takes to check out, and any concerns customers may have regarding interactions related to COVID-19,” Hy-Vee spokesperson Tina Potthoff said. She noted that the stores with the new machines will still offer a traditional checkout, with staff members scanning and bagging items. Some of the self-service machines also can convert into staffed checkouts when needed.
