The Healthiest State Initiative announced that the Double Up Food Bucks program has secured partnerships with Hy-Vee Inc. and Fareway Stores Inc., which will each pilot the program at multiple store locations. “The addition of major retail grocery stores that can be accessed year-round is a game-changer,” said Jami Haberl, executive director of the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative. “Allowing Iowans to utilize Double Up Food Bucks at their local grocery store no longer limits the program to the growing season.” Double Up Food Bucks, which matches up to $10 in SNAP food benefits daily for low-income Iowans to buy fruits and vegetables, has increased sales by 91 percent since its launch in 2016 and now has more than 300 farmers providing produce annually.
