Hy-Vee will deliver 30 million meals to vulnerable communities by 2025, the company’s chairman and CEO said during today’s White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health. Randy Edeker said the company will also deploy its team of registered dieticians to educate 100,000 people on healthy eating and nutrition by 2026. In a news release, Hy-Vee officials said their commitment builds on the company’s focus to fight hunger in communities it serves, from donations to food banks to holiday meal giveaways and events that feed thousands of people. Edeker said the company is positioned to help as more families turn to food banks and community resources to make ends meet. “By providing 30 million meals by 2025 and providing health and nutrition education to 100,000 Americans by 2026, we can better the lives of those families who are currently food insecure,” he said in the release. “Our ultimate goal is to help eliminate hunger and connect with those in need, because no one should ever have to worry about where their next meal will come from.” The White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health brought together the public and private sectors to accelerate efforts to end hunger, improve nutrition and physical activity, and close gaps in equity. The Biden administration also released a fact sheet detailing $8 billion in investments to end hunger in the U.S. by 2030.
