The plan now is to ask the public to help come up with recommendations, which are likely to include everything from whitewater to a series of signs and entry areas to make it easier to navigate. A final report is expected later this year.
Rick Tollakson, chairman of the task force and president and CEO of Hubbell Realty Co., said it will help the city’s quality of life, and development, to make it easier to use the rivers for recreation. “It’s something we have to get done,” Tollakson said.
The effort comes as kayaking enthusiasts push for a downtown whitewater course and as plans develop for an overhaul of Water Works Park. The map will eventually show parks and other attractions close to the river routes, and show photos of any hazards around water trails.
