IEDA awards $5.2M for community improvement projects
The Iowa Economic Development Authority has awarded $5.2 million for community improvement projects statewide. According to a news release, the awards are funded through the federally funded Community Development Block Grant program. Six downtown revitalization awards will go to six communities to improve 62 downtown building facades. Five communities received upper-story conversion awards for projects that will add 21 upper-story housing units. Grants are based upon the benefit to low- and moderate-income people, financial need, project impact and readiness, and commitment of local resources to the project. The grants help communities improve infrastructure and housing for low-income homeowners, provide facilities for individuals with disabilities, and make downtown improvements.
