The Iowa Golf Association (IGA) announced that the inaugural Iowa Adaptive Open will be held July 12-13, 2025. The newest IGA championship will be played at Terrace Hills Golf Course in Altoona and will be open to golfers with various classifications of disabilities. The competition will be open to anyone from around the country to participate. “Our Rules & Competitions Committee has discussed creating an event like this since before the Covid pandemic,” Chad Pitts, IGA executive director, said in a prepared statement. “But the truth was we didn’t have the knowledge or expertise in how to create the various divisions that would be necessary.” Pitts said the IGA has worked with partners at the Iowa Amputee Golf Association, the U.S. Golf Association (USGA) and the Georgia State Golf Association to develop the event. The USGA has hosted the U.S. Adaptive Open the past two years, and Georgia’s association has run an adaptive championship since 2019. Other states such as Indiana, Florida and Ohio have also recently added adaptive events. Entries for the Iowa Adaptive Open are expected to open on or around March 1, 2025, the announcement said. More details about the event will be available in coming months on the Iowa Golf Association website.
