Ryan Waller, currently the assistant county administrator in Lake County, Ill., will begin work Jan. 18 as city manager for Indianola. Mayor Kelly Shaw said the City Council last week approved hiring Waller at an annual salary of $140,000. The city has a hefty to-do list for Waller, including developing plans for a new wastewater treatment plant. The city will ask voters to approve a local option sales tax on March 1 to pay for the treatment plant. In addition, Waller will be asked to help control health care costs, which are expected to increase 10 percent next year. Waller has a Master of Public Administration degree from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa. Waller replaces Eric Hanson, who resigned earlier this year.
