Button, who has been in law enforcement for 36 years, was an Iowa state trooper and assistant director of the Division of Criminal Investigation with the Iowa Department of Public Safety before becoming Indianola’s police chief. “The entire community has benefited from Chief Button’s years of service,” Indianola Mayor Pam Pepper said in a prepared statement. “Not only has he led a high-quality, dedicated police force — he’s also built positive relationships between local law enforcement and the Indianola community, particularly our city’s youth.” Police Captain Brian Sher will serve as Indianola’s interim police chief.
