An abandoned Ankeny movie theater, all 27,774 square feet of it, will see new life as an indoor adventure park, complete with wall-to-wall trampolines, dodgeball courts, obstacle courses and tube playgrounds with multi-level climbing ropes and twisting pipes, according to a release.
Urban Air Adventure Park will open this summer at 2829 S. Ankeny Blvd., the former Springwood Theater and a temporary home for the last year for Missouri-based B&B Theatres as it awaited the construction of its 12-screen movie theater, bowling alley and entertainment arcade that opened last month at Prairie Trail. Urban Air Adventure Park is a project of sisters and Clarion natives Aimee Mayhew and Nicole Tausz, along with Jerrad Tausz. The trio also plans similar facilities in Kansas City and Omaha. The Ankeny facility also will feature a ropes course and the Urban Air Sky Rider Indoor Coaster. Other options include an inflatable landing pad below a series of trampolines, the Runway Tumble Track that offers a path for flipping, handspringing and cartwheeling, as well as a trampoline-assisted slam dunk zone. Also on tap are a cafe and a special lounge for parents with free Wi-Fi. Urban Air will be available for custom birthday parties for kids and corporate retreats, team-building experiences and private events for adults.
