Industry report: Wind power had strong ’17
U.S. wind power developments attracted $11 billion in investments in 2017, adding more than 7,000 megawatts to the mix, the U.S. wind industry’s fourth-quarter report found. Twenty-nine new wind farms totaling 4,125 megawatts began operations across 16 states in the fourth quarter. That means the United States has 89,077 megawatts of wind power across 41 states, enough to power 26 million American homes. Oklahoma bumped Iowa from second place to third in installed wind energy capacity by a small margin. Texas leads Oklahoma and Iowa in installed wind energy. Iowa leads the nation in the percentage of its power coming from wind power installations. The pipeline of U.S. wind farms under construction or in advanced development totals 28,668 megawatts, 34 percent more than at the end of 2016.
