Information technology in Iowa

Despite significant occupational growth in the past six years, total information technology (IT)-related jobs in Iowa have a 0.70 location quotient, meaning the sector has 30 percent less concentration of jobs than the U.S. average for employment in this sector, according to a report by the Battelle Technology Partnership Practice. IT is still a relatively small sector of the state’s economy. In 2009, the sector represented 2 percent of all Iowa private-sector jobs, and 3 percent of private-sector output.
