Homemakers Furniture, Iowa’s largest furniture store, announced it has completed construction of its ancillary warehouse facility in Urbandale. The 120,000-square-foot building adjacent to the Urbandale showroom will provide the company with 70 percent more storage for merchandise. A state-of-the-art furniture conveyor system will transport furniture and other goods between the company’s two buildings, carrying merchandise above existing railroad tracks via a unique skywalk structure. Homemakers will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new center at 4000 N.W. Urbandale Drive on Sept. 23 beginning at noon. The project marks the sixth major renovation for Homemakers since the company opened the doors of its Urbandale store in 1985, as well as the third build in the past six years. The project was valued on building permits at nearly $10.6 million, with the conveyor system accounting for nearly $460,000.
