Iowa African-American Hall of Fame announces 2012 inductees

This August, the Iowa African-American Hall of Fame will induct six new members. Founded in 1995, it recognizes the outstanding achievements of African-Americans with respect to enhancing the quality of life for all Iowans.

Now housed in the Black Cultural Center at Iowa State University, the hall has inducted 50 individuals have since its inception.

This year’s inductees are wrestling official Michael Allen; Dr. Harry Harper Sr. (posthumous); university administrator Phillip Hubbard (posthumous); director of community and diversity services for Mercy Medical Center Jacqueline Easley McGhee; state Rep. Helen Miller; and the first black female psychologist in Iowa, Arlene Morris.

Inductees will be recognized at a reception and banquet on Aug. 3 at The Meadows Events and Conference Center in Altoona. Tickets are $50 per person. To reserve a seat, contact Rose Wilbanks at 515-294-1909. To read more about this year’s inductees, click here
