Iowa architects to hold annual Canstruction fund raiser April 21
On April 21, the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects will hold its annual Canstruction charity event at the Capital Square atrium in Des Moines. The event raises funds to help fight hunger in Iowa. Local architects, design professionals, engineers and students from area schools are challenged to design and build sculptures using canned food as their primary building material. Teams will build “Canstructions” from 7 to 11 a.m., which will be followed by an awards ceremony at noon. The public is invited to visit the displays and bring canned food for donation to the Food Bank of Iowa. The Canstructions will remain on public display through April 28. All food and proceeds will be donated to the Food Bank of Iowa, serving 280 agencies in 42 Iowa counties.
