The Iowa Association of School Boards expressed strong support for a legislative extension of the statewide penny sales tax for school infrastructure during its annual delegate assembly in Des Moines. More than 200 IASB delegates are meeting Nov. 15-17 for the annual convention, which includes setting its platform for the 2018 legislative session. The association is calling for legislators to repeal the law’s 2029 sunset. “This funding stream is critically important for all school districts in Iowa and ensures our public schools are safe, accessible and modern, and can provide students with the 21st century technology they need to graduate prepared.” IASB Board President Amy Jurrens said in a release. Included among the association’s six platform goals were continued progress in developing rigorous content standards for career readiness and increased statewide access to and funding for mental health services for children.
