Iowa Business Council members expect strong finish to 2019

The Iowa Business Council’s quarterly survey of members found that most expect a strong economy and solid growth over the second half of this year.

Overall, the index dipped a bit, to 63.75 from 65.5. Measures of optimism included the fact that about 70% predicted higher sales and employment.

There were, however, causes for concern. The usual difficulty in finding and keeping workers, coping with rising health care costs, and headwinds from regulations and taxes were among the biggest challenges cited.

In addition, 35% of members reported that global trade issues were a potential negative in the period. Another 15% said weather could be a drag on agriculture.
