Iowa clears backlog of renters waiting on aid to avoid eviction

Des Moines Register: Eight months after Congress first approved emergency pandemic assistance for people in danger of losing their homes, the Iowa Finance Authority has cleared a backlog of applications from Iowa renters and landlords seeking the aid, director Debi Durham told the agency’s board of directors Thursday. It has provided $9.5 million in rental and utility aid to 3,460 households through the Iowa Rent and Utility Assistance Program. Another 2,500 applications are now complete, meaning both the landlord and the tenant have submitted all relevant information, and are under review.
