Corridor Business Journal: Iowa closed fiscal 2019 nearly $290 million in the black – more than double the amount of last year’s surplus, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Monday. The governor attributed the strong showing to both a vibrant economy and fiscal discipline, Radio Iowa reports, allowing it to invest in priorities like education, Future Ready Iowa and health care. Ms. Reynolds expressed caution, however, about “economic headwinds in our agricultural economy” and vowed to keep a lid on spending. Iowa’s $289.3 million surplus was buoyed by growth in tax collections, which were up about $521 million over the previous year, the Gazette notes.
