Parents, students, doctors, nurses, politicians and advocates from 10 Midwestern states will participate virtually on Thursday evening in “Vaccinate the Heartland,” a celebration of the value of immunizations for community health. Presenters will include Chelsea Clinton, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, comedian Charlie Berens and others representing Iowa along with Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The one-hour rally-style event is organized in part by Iowa Immunizes, an advocacy organization supported by the Iowa Public Health Association. Other speakers will include doctors, immunosuppressed children, cervical cancer survivors, parents of pertussis victims, epidemiologists and immunization leaders.
