Iowa Department of Education announces new grant program to support summer meal program
A new statewide grant program will soon be available to support increased summer meal sites under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program, which is administered by the Iowa Department of Education. The program helps provide access to nutritious meals to children in low-income areas during the summer. Typical sites for the program include schools, churches, community centers, parks, libraries, housing complexes and camps. To qualify as a site, the meal service must be either located in a low-income neighborhood where at least 50% of the children are eligible for free and reduced-price meals or must serve primarily low-income children and not duplicate services already being provided by another organization For more information, visit the program page.
