Iowa electric co-ops report service disruptions affecting 1,805 Tuesday morning

Local electric cooperatives in western and north-central Iowa reported temporary service disruptions affecting 1,805 residents this week to protect the electric grid, after one regional transmission organization issued emergency energy orders to utilities across several states. As of today, more than 1,000 residents of Dickinson County were reported to be without power, according to the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives, with limited power outages also reported in Buena Vista, Cherokee, Emmet, Kossuth, Monroe, Palo Alto and Pocahontas counties. The outages are occurring with no advance warning as the Southwest Power Pool manages electric supply and demand, the IAEC said. A state outage map is available online through the IAEC.
