The Iowa Energy Center is developing a grant program aimed at expanding energy education statewide. The Ames-based center has launched a set of six pilot projects at K-12 schools as well as community colleges. The projects that have been funded so far include development of online K-12 curricula about renewable energy, energy efficiency and the connection between energy and agriculture. At the community college level, an Energy Center-sponsored pilot program is creating online energy courses that can be shared among Iowa colleges. A second project is training college instructors on the latest efficient-building standards. The experience gained from the pilot programs will be used to establish a new Energy Center grant program, which is expected to launch this spring.
